I saw this sword by Yann Blomquist and thought it would make a really cool 3d Model. I wanted to challenge myself by picking a piece of concept and attempting to match it perfectly. I did get permission from Yann Blomquist before I started working. I didn't only want to only make a great render piece, I wanted to make one that would actually fit in a video game. Since it is extremely unlikely a single sword would ever be given its of 4k map for a game. I made sure to adjust the UV shells to fit with lower resolution maps. The sword doesn't actually start to lose any detail until you get to 512 maps. It all uses one Uv space.
Modeled in Maya. Textured In Substance Painter. Rendered in Marmoset Toolbag 3 and Unreal Engine 4.
